Attack in Turkey

  • On Wednesday 23 October 2024, a terrorist attack took place in Ankara, Turkey, at around 16:00 local time.1
  • Two terrorists, a man and a woman, arrived at the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) in Kazan, Ankara, in a car.2
  • They got out and shot at passers-by.3
  • This was followed by a confrontation between the terrorists and the security forces in which the woman reportedly detonated a bomb waistcoat.4
  • The other person was able to enter the building, possibly holding staff members hostage.5
  • At around 5 p.m. it was reported that the two perpetrators had been neutralised.6
  • Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that 5 people were killed and 14 injured.7
  • TUSAS is one of Turkey's leading defence and aviation companies. Among other things, it produces KAAN, the country's first domestic fighter aircraft, US-licensed F-16 fighter jets and unmanned aerial vehicles used regularly by the Turkish military.8
  • The attack has not yet been claimed, but the PKK and Daesh have already carried out several attacks in Turkey.9
